Leadership class prepares for Community Event!

The 20th annual Christmas Community Dinner will be held on Thursday, December 7th. This is a collaborative event involving Grade 10 PE Leadership students, Culinary Arts, Band, Vocal Performance and Dance students. As well, numerous teachers and students volunteer their time to help with the event as being Santa, dishwashers, servers, craft table leaders and supervisors.  Over 300 people in the community will be served dinner again this year in what continuous to be a wonderful annual tradition.

Grade 9 Wildcats experience the working world!

On November 1st, our Grade 9 Wildcats got a taste of the “working world” during Take Our Kids to Work Day.   Siddh, Navjot and Kevin were just three Wildcats who helped with office work, cleaning up or other tasks, while observing their hosts/parents at a pharmaceutical company, a law firm, a mechanic’s shop and many other diverse workplaces.  Many were surprised at how hard some of the work really is.  Some said they would pursue the same line of work; while others said they have their own career aspirations!  Many students commented on how hard their parents work!

Wildcats on the Move!

On Thursday, November 16th Ms. Pratt and Mrs. Reimchen took their grade 11 English class to JT Brown Elementary to read picture books created by the grade 11’s to an excited group of grade 1 and 2 students.  It was inspiring to see our students connect with young kids in our community.

Wildcats Give . . . to Halloween for Hunger!

In October, Tamanawis Secondary participated in the annual Halloween for Hunger food drive hosted by Global Awareness. Without a doubt, this year again was a tremendous success. Numerous donations were passed on to the Surrey Food Bank. These donations are able to support and provide many families with the basic necessity of food. The members of Global Awareness are so proud of how the event turned out, and admire the Wildcats for generously giving back to the community. In comparison to the last few years, this is the greatest amount of donations that have been collected. We were able to donate 24 packed boxes, and $445 in total. Among the top contributions was Ms. Goto’s class, who placed first out of all the classes. Second place for donations went to Ms. Hutchison’s class, and in a close third place was Ms. Stobb’s class. We are thankful to everyone that participated in this food drive, and appreciate all of the donations received. We look forward to bringing back this event next year!

Social Studies 9 Field Trip to Fort Langley

On November 20th the Socials 9 classes visited Fort Langley to learn about early Canadian settlements, the fur trade and our Aboriginal ancestors. Despite the rainy weather, the students had a great time engaging in challenges that took them all over the Fort.

Student Achievements!

Recently, Tamanawis student Morgan D. competed in the Western Canadian Irish Dance competition.  She finished 2nd in her division and qualified for the world championships in Glasgow Scotland  next summer.  What a wonderful achievement, Morgan!

Modern Languages . . . presents!

Grade 12 GTP Presentations . . .

Shubneet D, Arshpreet C, and Jasleen K —- These girls were the first to complete their GTP presentations.

Band students also complete their GTP presentations . . .

Grade 10 Wildcat “Mock Interviews” . . .

Mr. Kaufman’s Career Life Education 10 classes participated in Mock Interviews on November 23 and received a dose of reality!  They were expected to dress appropriately, bring their resume and be prepared to explain why they should be hired. Interviewers came from neighbouring KPU & the restaurant industry, and in some cases, gave up their entire day to help.          A big thank you to KPU and other volunteers . . . we could not hold these events without you!!  Such support is very much appreciated.

Wildcat Athletics!

The JR Girls Volleyball Team took a break between games at the South Delta Tourney to roast some marshmallows!

They are coming off wins against Frank Hurt and PMS, now we look to compete in the playoffs. Good Luck Girls!

Basketball Season has begun!  The Senior Boys’ team will be away from December 3-9 for a tournament in California – we wish them much success!  Wrestling is another winter sport and our team placed second last year in the provincial championships with only 6 competitors!  Former Wildcat and Coach – Pola Sahota is very excited about the coming season and the potential of these young wrestlers.
